Saab Key Programming

Saab cars manufactured since 1994 utilize an immobilizer that relies on a set of keys. To add an additional key, you need an entirely new transponder and programming. This is usually done by the dealer, using a specially-designed Tech2 diagnostic tool.

The issue is that this could be quite costly. You should always keep an extra set of keys in your possession.

Transponder key

The transponder key is a key with an electronic chip that sends a signal to the car when it is put into the ignition. The car then examines the signal to determine if it matches the one in the key. If both signals match it will open itself and start. This is an excellent way to protect your car from theft.

Jump-starting the battery

Most people keep a few sets of jumper cables in their trunk for emergency situations, but jumping a battery on modern vehicles might not be the best option. These vehicles are equipped with many computers and digital devices which communicate with each other. A surge in voltage when the battery is connected to another could cause damage to these components and render your car unable to drive.

Connect the cables to the vehicle that is operating. Let it run for two minutes. Attach the red clip on the positive terminal of the battery that is good. (It will say "POS" or "+".) Attach the other end of the black cable to an unpainted, clean metal surface underneath the car's hood. The engine block is an excellent choice.
