A grandma's typical birthday present led to a million-dollar windfall for one lucky man. 

The man from Armidale, in NSW's Northern Tablelands, pocketed $1million after receiving a lotto ticket for the Monday and Wednesday draw. 

He held one of two division one winning entries drawn last Wednesday.

'It's got to be the best present I've ever received,' he said.  

'When I scanned it online and it said I had won $1 million, I didn't believe it. I thought it was just an error, so to have it confirmed is just crazy.

'I had to knock off early today. I'm just in so much shock.

'This is amazing. I'll be able to buy a house.'  

The man said it didn't feel real when a official called and told him the news.

'Holy s***!' he laughed. 

'It's great because I don't normally play Lotto. I'll occasionally play Powerball when it's big but that's about it.

'Thank you so much.'

On Thursday, Aussies will be eagerly eyeing the whopping Powerball jackpot up for grabs.

The jackpot swelled to $100million after there were no division one winners in Thursday's night's draw for the fifth consecutive week

 

If one player cleans up the entire $100m division one prize in a week's time, they'll share the crown of Australia's second biggest individual lottery winner ever.

The only way players can be in with a chance to secure the multi-million-dollar prize is by grabbing a ticket either in-store, online or via The Lott app.

James Eddy, who has the amazing job of telling Australians that they're a major lottery winner, revealed exactly what words the lucky winner will hear.

'We then need to go through a few verification steps. And then at the end of that, if it's a little taste tester for Thursday night, I'm able to say 'Well, congratulations. It's my pleasure to be able to tell you that in this draw you are one of our division one winners and you've won $200 million.' And you just pause!

The numbers from last week's draw were 6, 18, 32, 3, 1, 16 and 12. The all-important Powerball number was 4.
